AMD: Fab36 Construction Celebrations
According to German press reports, AMD is expected to host celebrations on May 17 to commemorate the construction of its new Fab36 factory in Dresden, Germany. As a reminder, the decision to build a new AMD Fab 36 factory in the vicinity of Dresden, Saxony, was made at the end of 2021. Fab 36
is part of AMD Dresden Fab 36 LLC & Co. KG, the production lines of the new factory will be located near the workshops of the existing AMD Fab 30. According to Hans Deppe, head of AMD’s Dresden branch, construction is currently proceeding according to the previously planned schedule, no delays are foreseen. The first test trials of Fab36 production lines are likely to take place as early as 2021; the start of mass production of processors with norms of 65 nm and less on silicon wafers with a diameter of 300 mm is planned for the first half of 2021.
It is expected that the production will employ about 1000 workers, mainly highly qualified engineers and specialists. Currently, the most modern is AMD production in another Dresden factory, Fab30, where all the company’s processors are manufactured.
