Taiwan motherboard shipments: 10-13% decline expected
According to the source, investors predict a decrease in the supply of Taiwan-made motherboards during the first quarter of 2021. Investment companies such as Smith Barney Citigroup, Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse First Boston are among those expecting a drop in supply, and they expect sales to drop by 11-12%, 10% and 11-13%, respectively.
There is nothing surprising in the decrease in sales in the first quarter – this is the usual seasonal variation in demand. However, this year seems to be affected by the increased amplitude of market fluctuations last year: a 10-13% decrease in demand is twice the 5-10% decrease in sales observed over the past four to five years, similar to the 20% increase in demand observed in the fall of 2021 with forecast less than 10%. There is also a decrease in demand for laptops.
Observers note that it is not for nothing that Intel postponed the price cut for its processors to February 15 by 1 – this can be considered a sign of not very good sales.
