Samsung Introduces Dual Power MMC and Reduced Size DV-MMC

Samsung Electronics announced
the release of the new line of Dual Power MultiMediaCards, (Dual Voltage MultiMediaCards,
DV-MMC) that meet the low voltage requirements,
applicable to removable media for mobile devices (digital cameras
and mobile phones) new generation. If the standard current consumption
the existing flash card is 80 mA, then the new 1.8 and 3.3 V cards are in read mode
data consumes only 20 mA. The characteristics of the cards will seem to be standard:
write speed – 1.8 Mb / s, Dual Voltage MMC dimensions – 24.0 x 32.0 x 1.4 mm,
RS-DV-MMC – 24.0 x 18.0 x 1.4 mm.

Currently, mobile phone manufacturers are considering
removable media options for newer MMC and RS-MMC phones, it looks like now
they have another alternative – DV-MMC. Samsung’s card lineup is presented
9 models of different capacities and sizes: 32, 64, 128, 256 and 512 MB DV-MMC, 32,
64, 128 and 256 MB Dual Voltage-Reduced Size-MMC (DV-RS-MMC). However, the company,
seems to be slightly behind competitors – Hitachi introduced such media
in November 2021, however, considering that the first MMC appeared
from a Korean manufacturer in mid-April last year, undoubtedly,
not bad.

The main purpose of flash cards in phones of generations 2.5 and 3 is to store
high resolution video and static images. MMC cards with a capacity of 128
MB and above can read data at a speed of 1.9 MB / s.
