DDR2 SDRAM: a DRAM perspective
Once again, analysts have got food for thought on the future of DDR2
SDRAM, we have already published a number of opinions of experts from analytical companies, now
it would be interesting to present the opinion of those who are directly involved in sales
memory – DRAMeXchange analysts who wondered: if the majority
manufacturers have already certified DDR2 SDRAM from Intel, the company most aggressively
promoting this type of memory in the market, but contract prices for DDR SDRAM continue
grow and rumors circulate in the market about possible supply shortages of this type
memory in the second half of the year, will memory really penetrate so deeply into the market
next generation in the foreseeable future?
To begin with, we recall that to speed up the transition to memory use of a new
type and to ensure the guaranteed production volumes of DDR2 SDRAM, Intel has invested

before DDR2 SDRAM becomes mainstream memory. As for Intel, the company
does not approve of such a memory, which is understandable.
As for the high prices of DDR2 SDRAM, many observers agree,
that at the initial stage, memory will be used mainly in servers, however,
considering that Intel has postponed the introduction of the chipset with support for DDR2 SDRAM,
Lindenhurst, from the end of March to June, analysts believe that the market share of memory
the new generation may be smaller than anticipated. Moreover, it is not worth it
forget that Alviso, a DDR2 SDRAM chipset for laptops, will be presented

the company itself will produce about 140-200 million. microcircuits, which will be 50-60%
total output. According to Nanya’s estimates, the share of DDR2 production by the company will be 30%
DRAM release this year, the company’s market share in the DDR2 sector will be 10%;

So everything seems to depend, firstly, on the PC OEMs –
on how quickly they move to the next generation of memory.
