Taiwanese companies’ plans for CeBIT 2021: about MSI and Acer
Although more than two weeks are left before CeBIT 2021 (the exhibition starts on March 20), information about the plans of companies producing computer equipment and components is gradually leaking into the press. By now, we have heard (source – the Taiwanese newspaper Commercial Times) that MSI will present its first video adapters based on ATI graphics chips during the exhibition, thereby ceasing to be an exclusive partner of NVIDIA.
According to observers, this move by MSI is a consequence of increased competition between ATI and NVIDIA. Until now, there hasn’t been a single ATI-based solution in MSI’s graphics card family. According to the newspaper, MSI’s decision was also influenced by the fact that demand for ATI boards is much higher than for NVIDIA boards. The company expects that after the announcement of motherboards on ATI chips, the volume of shipments of MSI graphics adapters should sharply increase. MSI currently ships about 700,000 boards monthly. No official comment from MSI has been received yet.
Meanwhile, another Taiwanese company, Acer, is set to unveil two new laptop models at Computex in Taipei (June 1-5), and these models should define the company’s laptop concept for the next three to five years.
According to the source, one of these two models will be the new 14.1-inch TravelMate laptop and the Aspire laptop. Most likely, a lot of attention will be paid to the color scheme of the cases, although the first prototypes have a standard silver color.
By the way, the level of supplies of notebooks from leading Taiwanese manufacturers in February was not high, despite the expectations of observers that after the holiday lull at the end of January, demand will grow significantly.
So, Quanta’s shipments, instead of growing by 7%, fell by 15.2%, Compal’s shipments fell by 22.5%, while the expected growth of 2%. As a reminder, Compal and Quanta are laptop OEMs for many of the leading vendors.
