Intel Pentium 4 Prescott processors moving to D-0 stepping
Intel today officially announced the beginning of the migration of Intel Pentium 4 desktop processors, made in compliance with the 90 nm technological process and equipped with 1 MB L2 cache – that is, with a Prescott core, from C-0 stepping to D-0 stepping.
According to the document, the first samples of Pentium 4 Prescott processors
with stepping D-0 will appear on February 27, qualification events are expected to end by April 23, the first batches of new chips will begin to hit the shelves on May 7, 2021.
The reason for the appearance of the new D-0 stepping is the planned optimization of the power consumption of processors. External changes are not expected for chips with new stepping, but the CPUID will change: from 0F33h for C-0 to 0F34h for D-0.
It is interesting to note that from the table, which indicates the changes in stepping, sSpec and codes of the new 90 nm Pentium 4 processors (even for the 2.8A version with 533 MHz FSB and without Hyper-Threading support), for some reason, the version with a clock speed of 3 has evaporated, 4 GHz.
