Dothan Unique Features: Overclocked to 2.4GHz and Athlon 64 3400-Level Performance+
Our news feed has already posted a sufficient number of announcements of laptops based on mobile Intel Pentium M processors with 90nm Dothan core. But our French colleagues from X86-Secrets report that they managed to overclock Dothan with a nominal clock frequency of 2 GHz to 2.4 GHz, and its performance was at the level of Socket 939 AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (running at 2.0 GHz ) with dual channel memory.
The experiment compared the following systems: ASUS M6Ne based on Intel Pentium M 755 2 GHz and 735 1.7 GHz, 855GME chipset with 512 MB Kingmax PC2100 SO-DIMM and Radeon Mobility 9700; Athlon 64 3400+ / Athlon 64 FX-51 on an Asus K8V / SK8V (K8T800) motherboard with two 256 MB Corsair PC3200 memory modules and an nVidia GeForce FX 5900 graphics adapter with 128 MB; as well as Pentium 4 3.2 GHz / Pentium 4 EE 3.2 GHz on an Asus P4C800-E motherboard (i875P chipset) with two 256 MB Corsair PC3200 memory modules and an nVidia GeForce FX 5900 graphics adapter with 128 MB video memory.

Our French colleagues conducted a number of interesting tests and comparisons of the Banias and Dothan architecture, a detailed description of which is beyond the scope of this news and will certainly appear in our future reviews. Secondly, the performance of the Dothan 755 overclocked to 2.4 GHz in most tests was between Athlon 64 3400+ and Athlon 64 FX-51 and higher than that of the “desktop” Pentium 4. According to the researchers, the Dothan 755 can be overclocked to 2.8 GHz with a more advanced cooling system.
Third, contrary to expectations, the power consumption of the 90nm Dothan 735 is slightly higher than that of the 130nm Banias 1.7 GHz (battery life was 3 hours 13 minutes and 3 hours 20 minutes, respectively). You can read more about the experiment there.
