It looks like the fashion for portable fuel cell technology came from Japan across the ocean – at IDF Intel unveiled the concept of a hybrid fuel cell that should have enough capacity to power a laptop for at least eight hours. The 12 W cell fits into the optical drive bay and has a 160 ml volume and uses a 100 ml cartridge. Intel is going to present the Swap Bay “fuel” concept at the Smart Battery System Implementers Forum for endorsement or possible standardization.
