By all appearances, the fashion for multi-core processors has reached embedded architectures: ARM, which recently announced the entry of digital signal processors (DSP) into the market, presented a reference design of the MPCore processor architecture, containing from one to four processor cores and supporting SMP ( symmetric multiprocessing).
MPCore is based on ARMv6 with SIMD extensions and, according to the company, is capable of delivering 2600 Dhrystone MIPS (Million. instructions per second).
