The time has come to officially unveil the new generation of NVIDIA GPUs and share details about their architecture and capabilities.
So, the family of GeForce 6800 graphics chips, previously known under the working name NV40, is officially moving from the development stage to the implementation stage. At first, the family will consist of two chips: GeForce 6800 Ultra and GeForce 6800, with a single architecture.
The main difference between the chips is that the GeForce 6800 Ultra has 16 pipelines, while the GeForce 6800 has only 12 pipelines. Plus, the main number of cards based on GeForce 6800 Ultra, according to the plan, will be equipped with 256 MB of DDR3 memory, while cards based on GeForce 6800 – 128 MB of DDR memory.
