Knockona: new processor core with support for 64-bit AU-32i instructions
Our Japanese colleagues from PC Uotchi in today’s morning news release shared information about the upcoming Knockona processor core, which supports the 64-bit AU-32i instruction set and is fully compatible with MD64 instructions. The details that have become public interest, especially the electron microscope photo of the Knockona core, is literally shocking. However, first things first.
The Knockona processor is nothing more than the basic version of the Presskit kernel, equipped with an additional AU-32i unit. As a matter of fact, this is the whole highlight. The processing of AU-32i instructions is carried out as follows: the chip decoder turns them into a sequence of so-called MicroOOOPs, after tracing in the cache, the micro-ups are processed in the same separate 64-bit module called RUIZ (Realtime Universal Instruction Zapper). The module translates micro-ups into assembler, and after execution – back, using the CQQ (Convert Quadword to Double Quadword) module, similar in functionality to the CQO (Convert Quadword to Octword) module used in MD64 processing. Of course, the processor supports all other modern technologies, such as HT (Horizontal Tab), VT (Vertical Tab), LT (Le Grand Theorem) and so on. Support for all technologies in future programs has already been announced by the well-known company Maccrosoft.
Now – the most interesting thing: a photo of the RUIZ module, taken with the help of a particularly powerful electron microscope (there they, the micro-ups of the module, all 64, come along the conveyor). It turns out that all ingenious is always simple!
