About AMD64 processors with the new CG stepping: how to distinguish them now. What’s new
Each processor, as you know, undergoes several stages of technological rework during its life, as a result of which new steppings with new or improved properties appear. The new CG stepping of AMD Athlon 64, Mobile Athlon 64 DTR, Mobile Athlon 64 and Athlon 64 FX processors, which is being prepared for release in the very near future, will differ from its predecessor C0 by some serious improvements, mainly in terms of power saving modes.
AMD Athlon 64 Processor Power and Thermal Data Sheet version 3 provides detailed information on the changes in CG stepping chips.11, updated on AMD website in January 2021. New CG Athlon 64 stepping is reflected in the processor labeling. For example, for Athlon 64 chips for desktop PCs in the labeling standards

Now – about the essence of the changes introduced by the new stepping. Pay attention to this table of characteristics of Athlon 64 (Desktop) chips with CG stepping:
The table shows that the implementation of Cool?n?Quit in these processors is slightly changed. Unlike chips with C0 stepping, the power-saving mode of which is normalized to a clock frequency of 800 MHz with a core voltage of 1.30 V and a corresponding TDP of this mode of about 35 W, the new CG stepping differs in that for Cool?n?Quiet clock speed increased to 1000 MHz, however, the core voltage is reduced to 1.10 V, and thus the TDP is reduced to 22 W. The full-frequency mode of the processors remained unchanged – the same 1.5 V power supply and TDP 89 W, however, for the Athlon 64 3400+ chip, one more intermediate economical state p-State # 2 was added with a clock frequency of 1.80 GHz and a core voltage of 1. 30 in.
Another significant change in the new stepping is the reduced power consumption requirements for the interface logic of AMD64 chips: now for the Athlon 64 Desktop, DTR and Mobile processors, the I / O Power parameter is normalized to 160 mW, while for the previous stepping this value was 600 mW. For Athlon 64 FX chips, this figure dropped from 1.4 W to 0.4 W.
Despite the fact that the TDP parameter of the chips with the new stepping remained unchanged, in practice, the introduction of new lightweight modes of operation of the chip means a significant unloading of the processor cooling systems and an improvement in the overall temperature regime of the system in particular.
How significant these improvements will be will be shown only by tests of systems with a new chip. However, do not forget that all these innovations are relevant only for motherboards that support Cool technology in the BIOS?n?Quiet.
