MT9M111: 1.3 megapixel Micron sensor, no flash required

Micron continues its foray into the digital image sensor market, this time focusing on low-light performance rather than pixel count.

The company’s new microcircuit, MT9M111, is capable of operating under 1 to 2 lux lighting, being, among other things, a “system-on-a-chip” (SoC). The MT9M111 integrates a CMOS sensor with 1.3 million. pixels, dark current does not exceed 15 electrons per second, dynamic range – 71 dB, signal-to-noise ratio at the output – 44 dB. The chip is manufactured according to 0.15-micron technological standards, the power consumption in full load mode is 170 mW (at the maximum operating rate for the device – 15 frames per second in a resolution of 1280×1024 or in a resolution of 640×480, 30 frames per second). Chip Form Factor – 48-pin PLCC or 44-pin BGA CSP. Optical format – 1/3 inch, pixel size 3.6×3.6 microns.

Micron is positioning its sensor for use in mobile phones and PDA (PDA). A 2-megapixel version of the chip will be released by the end of the year.
